VIP One Direction Tickets

Written by RRSC. Posted in News

BIDDING NOW CLOSED - WINNING BID £380.00

To raise funds for the club to use towards additional coaching and facilities for all of our swimmers we have the opportunity for you to secure three One Direction tickets for 23rd February 2013. The tour is sold out and I am sure that after the Jingle Bell Ball and the X Factor appearances this weekend their popularity is as high as ever.

These are VIP tickets only available via debenture holders which allow access to the VIP lounge, private staircase into the arena and VIP parking (with a small additional charge and needs to be booked in advance). As debenture tickets they are secured a week ahead of public access at the rack rate* which means that all the best tickets are sold before they go to the public. They are in the block closest to the stage so provide a great view of the band. They are tickets that you would almost certainly not be able to access once they go out to the public.

We are going to auction these tickets in time for Christmas. We will do this on a silent basis as follows:

. We have an initial bid of £150 for the three tickets.

. If you would like to increase the current maximum bid please email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

. The highest bid will be put at the top of this page once bidding starts

. We will close the auction on Tuesday 18th December at 7pm and will advise the winners thereafter

. The tickets will be provided around two weeks before the event. These tickets cannot be resold and must be used by the party they were purchased for

. You can purchase the tickets for yourself or friends; but any individuals must represent the club appropriately at the event

* the rack rate for the tickets is £38.75 - but take a look at e-bay to see how much the top seats go for.

Coaches update - Home Gala Results plus Club Champs info

Written by RRSC. Posted in News

Just a quick update on the results of the home gala and the situation re the long distance club championships.

HOME GALA

First may I thank all those involved with the home gala (organising, behind the scenes and poolside), the event went well considering the number of home teams we were running (3 of them) and the number of swimmers who did not have much gala experience.

I would also like to thank all the swimmers and their parents that attended, even those who come for a relay swim, the information we have collected (swimmers times) is proving to be very useful, even for those with just one swim as it gives the coaches a chance to see what they can do in a competition environment (sometimes on a different stroke from their main one) and is useful for checking their progress against training targets.

We had a lot of good performances with 85% of all swims being lifetime personal best times, and some swimmers have swum themselves in to contention for a place in the National Arena League Team which will be published next Monday. The results for the home gala are available here, on a minor note we did have a problem with one of the watches during two of the relays so their are some missing times on event 49 and 50.

When reading the relay results the splits are listed under the swimmers names and for the medley relay the stroke order is Backstroke, Breastroke, Butterfly and Front Crawl, so a swimmer listed as going third would have been doing butterfly.

Well done again to all those who took part.

LONG DISTANCE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The licenced long distance club championships have been cancelled for this year, however it has been decided to run the long distance events initially on an unlicensed basis, these will still form part of the club champs (cups/medals awarded etc) but the times will not be licenced so cannot be used for entry in the the county championships. If you or your swimmer is interested in doing these then please send me an email confirming you would like to do it. The events are (please state what event/s you wish to do on the email):

400 medley (4 x 100 - 100 on each stroke)
400 free
800 free female only
1500 free male only

These will be arranged by the coaching staff during normal training sessions, once we know who wants to enter we will let you know when your swim will be. We will try where possible to keep these on your swimmers normal training days.

For swimmers who take part in the unlicensed events and who's times are close to or within the county qualifying times, we are trying to set up a licenced event in early January before the county entry deadline in order to allow them to try to obtain or improve their times for county entry. If we are able to arrange this event in time it will not count toward the club championships results.

Coaches Update November - League team Atlantis results, surreys etc

National Arena League Team

The team for round 3 of the National Arena League is listed below (and attached), this is a very important gala for the club, please make every effort to attend if selected. The club is in a very good position after all the hard work put in over the first two rounds (were at our highest league position for 15 years!) and I would like us to continue that work in round 3 to ensure we improve even further.

Team selection has been complicated (in a positive way) by all the good results and personal best times produced over the recent weeks opens (especially Atlantis - but more on that later), so some very hard decisions have had to be made as this event requires the best swimmers in their strongest events. Well done to all those that have made the final round team and thank you to all those that have helped us get to our current position for round 3.

Atlantis Christmas Open

Well done to all the swimmers taking part in this event over last weekend, it was a fabulous result for the club. We had a large number of personal best times and finished 5th overall out of 32 clubs in combined scores, the boys finished 4th and the girls (with a smaller number of swimmers) finished 8th. We also gained a lot of surrey qualifying times which is excellent and a number of swimmers are now very close to getting more.

Congratulations to Jacob Newcombe for getting the aptly named top gun trophy for highest individual point score. He competed in 10 events over the weekend coming in the top 3 in 7 of those while the other 3 were all in the top 8 positions. Good swimming Jacob.

The results for this event are attached to this email. Well done again to all who competed.

South East Region Winter Regional Championships

We have swimmers taking part in the winter regionals this weekend at Aldershot, please can I remind the swimmers that this is an opt out event, if for any reason your not going to swim you need to notify the organisers as soon as possible.

Good luck to all taking part.

Surrey County Championships

With so many swimmers getting the county times over the last few weeks and a lot more who are very close to getting them, I thought it would be useful to send round the qualifying times again (attached), please remember when looking at the times the age up date (the age group that your child will swim in) is determined as their age on the 23rd March 2013, so if they are still for example 13 on that date then thats the age group they will be swimming in and the age group for the qualifying times you will need to look at.

Also short course times are those done in pools of 25 meters in length (the same as our own Redhill pool), the long course pools are those of 50 meters in length (like Aldershot).

We have released 3 additional open meets for swimmers still wanting to obtain their surrey times, these are in January. Details were circulated by Nicky and Clare yesterday, if you missed them please see below:

For those swimmers still seeking Surrey times, we set out below details of three forthcoming galas that you may wish to enter. Entry to all three galas is on a "fastest time" basis rather than "first come first served" so there is no disadvantage to your entering close to the deadline.

Please note that you will need to email the relevant club directly as you will have to apply on an individual basis - we will not be co-ordinating entries via the club.

Finally, these are unsupported meets and so there will be no formal coach cover (unless we get lots of people wanting to go). As a parent, you may wish to pay for a poolside pass (coaches pass).

Don't forget many of our swimmers have been accepted into the Epsom Gala on 12th/13th January 2013.

Brighton Level 2 - to be held on 12th/13th January - closing date 2nd January 2013
Basingstoke Level 3 - to be held on 5th/6th January - closing date 21st December 2012

City of Canterbury Christmas Gala Level 3 - to be held on 29th December 2012 - closing date 7th December 2012

Head Coaches Update

Written by RRSC. Posted in News

Surrey County Championships

The surrey county swimming championships take place in March and April this year and the qualifying times and program of events has now been released (they are attached to this email).

These championships represent the first steps on the journey that can lead swimmers to eventually compete in the national championships and beyond and should be the first level that all club swimmers aim for. The attached list of qualifying times will allow you to see which events your swimmer will be able to compete in and how close they are to times for other events, The ages shown on the qualifying times list are age as at the 7th April 2013.

Swimmers wishing to enter the 2013 county championships will need there qualifying times to have been done at LICENCED galas or open meets (this is usually indicated in the title of the gala or open – if in doubt check with me).

Our club championships are licence meets (times can be used as qualifying times).

The club entry forms for the county championships will not be available till later this year to allow as much time as possible for the qualifying times to be achieved at open galas, there is a list of open meets available on the club website. the link is:

http://www.rrsc.org.uk/index.php/galas/forthcoming-galas-and-events

Swimmers should enter as many opens as possible to ensure they have the best possible time available for entry in to the county championships. The club will be entering relay teams for the championships, these will be selected from our fastest swimmers with times registered from any gala (the relay teams dont require times from licenced events). The county relays tend to be 50 or 100 meter swims so even if you dont get an individual county time you could still be selected to swim in the relay squad for your age group by being one of the 4 fastest in that group, so ensure you keep training hard and do as many galas/opens as possible.

General reminder achieving the qualifying times for any county championship or open does NOT guarantee entry, you should always enter as many opens as possible to try to improve your times and gain qualifying times in new events, if in doubt speak with me or one of the coaches.

Upcoming Gala’s and Open Events

Club Gala

Saturday 22nd September – We have the Home Gala, team list attached and shown below this email, if you are unable to make the gala please notify me by email or there will be a gala sheet on the desk on Fridays and Tuesdays for you to indicate your availability.

Licensed Open Meets

A list of forthcoming open meets is on the club website, please check it regularly.

National Swimming League

This is the National Swimming League, this comprises of 3 rounds of competition, 13th October, 10th November and the final round on the 8th December. The competition is very important to the club and only our best swimmers are selected for this team, if your swimmer is selected please make every effort to attend.

The results from the home gala and the next lot of opens will be used to assist in selecting the team for the National League. The team is evaluated before each round of the competition and selections are based on best in age group criteria at the time of the competition, so the team can change between rounds.

Training

Sessions

Swimmers should be doing as many session as possible (see web site for number and locations of sessions available to squad swimmers) Remember that the program is based on the swimmers doing all the session available to then in that squad, missing sessions will mean missing parts of the program that would have helped improve the swimmers performance. Time trials are also held during training sessions and missing training sessions may mean missing a time trial that may give you the time you need to enter one of the unlicensed open meets.

Time Keeping, it is important that swimmers are at the sessions on time and ready to start, missing parts of the warm up will increase the chances of injury as well as reducing the effectiveness of the session.

Long Course (50 Meter) Training and Land Training

These are important components of the swimmers development as they progress through the club, the advantages a swimmer has when competing in a long course pool (50 Meter pool like Aldershot) if they already have the experience of swimming (training) in that type and length of pool will improve their performances. Please remember that even at County levels some of the competitions are held in long course pools. It is also very beneficial from a training point of view to train in these types of pools. 50 Meter training is part of the program for the following squads:

Senior A, Senior B, Youth, Age Group A and Age Group B.

The next series of dates for the Aldershot 50m Training are as follows:

29th September

20th October

17th November

15th December

19th January 2013

16th February 2013

Swim Specific Land Training is another area that can benefit the swimmers, it works on the primary areas that are important to swimming and takes place on a Friday (Club Night). This is different from general fitness training in that the work is structured towards swimming, so the benefits are greater.
