Masters success at 25th Guernsey Masters Swim meet!

The 25th Guernsey Masters Swim meet took place on the weekend of the 15th to 17th April and was attended by four members of Redhill and Reigate Swimming Club masters. It was regrettable the Jenny Bass could not join us this year due to ill health but hopefully she will come back at full strength next year.

There were a few medals won, these being a gold and silver for Lorna Ball in the 100m and 50m backstroke, and a Silver and bronze for Jo Read in the 50m breaststoke and 200m freestyle.

There was success all round with all four swimmers making good progress on previous years and improving times, with Denise Anderson gaining a PB in the 400m freestyle.

We were very lucky to have Andy Collins from the Met Police swim club giving advice and encouragement and feedback on split times. It really helped a lot to have that support on poolside.

The team also entered two relays and managed to come 3rd in the 200 freestyle.

It was great to be a part of a really eventful meet with lots of World Records broken by the exceptional lady swimmer, Jane Asher from Kings Cormerants swimming club who at the age of 85 didn't just break the records but smashed them sometimes by up to 10 seconds! It was a very emotional after event dinner with this lady getting a standing ovation for her inspiration swimming.

If any members think they are too old to take part in Masters Competitions this just proves they're not!
